Transforming Soft Robotics: Laminar Jammers Unlocking Adaptive Stiffness Potential in Pneunet Actuators

PneuNet actuators emulate human finger function and have broad application potential in domestic industrial settings. To unlock their full potential, enhancing controlled stiffness is crucial. This study presents the innovative design, fabrication, evaluation of a cost-effective soft hybrid bending actuator by merging homogeneous laminar structure, composed 75 GSM printer paper, with produced through lithography techniques. research also characterizes ensemble based on its tunable properties examines friction tests jamming layers, highlighting stabilization frictional over time, which critical for achieving consistent stiffness. Experiments revealed that actuator’s resistive force increases due to deformation when subjected an external load. Furthermore, this linear rise can be modulated use integrated jammer adjusting vacuum pressure. Results reveal negligible increase beyond −53.33 kPa pressure, signifying ideal pressure limit energy conservation during jamming. A maximum 0.116 N was achieved at −80 propels field robotics offering enhanced characteristics diverse applications.
